If things go well, I will be running more. IntroductionI'm going to be running at least the first book of Paizo's Carrion Crown adventure, the eponymous Haunting of Harrowstone. Even in light of the tumultuous political upheavals that have marked the past forty years, remains Ustalav clannish, resistant to change and not likely to be abandoned any time soon. Yet, for all the horror and hardship, civilization clutches the land in a death grip, stubbornly refusing to let go. These monsters in the skin of men blend into the society and, like a cancer, kill it insidiously from within. And worse still are those who would not be blind, those who stare into the abyss, only to be forever changed by what they glimpse within. The aristocrats play at the lost glories of their distant ancestors and the urbane traditions of the south, all in a vain effort to blind themselves to the horror that festers within their lands. They are steeped in it, growing up to be insular and paranoid or never getting the chance to grow up at all. The common people of the land are born and raised in fear. Although the days when the dead ruled are long gone, the shadows in Ustalav are still long and in every dark corner hides some wicked thing, eager to fulfill its twisted urges upon those who stray too close. Ustalav is a tortured land, its body and soul flayed by the unhallowed events of its unspeakable past. Although it dresses in the clothes of the lands to the south, do not mistake the Immortal Principality for anything but the wolf it is. Ustalav In the savage, brutal north of Avistan, Ustalav is an outpost of civilization but not of safety and certainly not of sanity.
